Is God Still Jealous, or Now Just Envious?
October 18, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - October 20, 2019 @ 11:00 am CDT
$125 – $225Exodus 20:5 and 34:14 don’t leave much to the imagination about God’s self-awareness: upshot of both is that God is a jealous God.
Even life-long English speakers confuse, though, the words ‘jealous’ and ‘envious.’
’Jealous’ means unwilling to share.
’Envious’ means wanting what someone else has.
It’s often overlooked that in the First Commandment, God doesn’t say that there aren’t any other gods: God says only that we shouldn’t have any other gods.
There are options, that is, and by and large, we’ve opted for them.
In this retreat, we take a look at what we mean by the word ‘God,’ and whether this God is jealous, or envious, or both, and what that means for those who aren’t faithful, or who want to be, but aren’t, on any given day, maybe so very much.
